My last post was exactly one month ago, so its time to get back to business. To all the parents who read my blog I'm sure you know how busy back to school can be...and I have 4!!... During my absence I did do a shoot with Forsaken Regime which was really cool , make sure you click the work tab to check out some of the shots, more coming soon.
At the moment I am working on a project to showcase my work as a freelance stylist. Although I've spent many years dressing people, (not famous people, calm down) I initially had no plans of getting into freelance styling. Writing about fashion has always been what I wanted to do. Styling started happening as more and more people began to reach out to me for help. I only wish I had begun building my portfolio years ago but its never too late to do anything.
I've always known that I wanted to work in the fashion industry, and I've always known I wanted to be in business for myself. I began FIDM not really knowing which direction in the industry I would take but I knew getting the education and the degree was a step in the right direction. My first retail job was as a merchandise manager, and I continued to move up from there. I enjoyed my work at the time but like I said I wanted to be in business for myself. After retail I started a previous blog, 2 online boutiques, and became co-owner of a hat shop. The struggle has been real! As with every business there will be challenges, up and downs. Trying to make money, while having to spend money, gaining support and customers, marketing yourself and your product, building your brand, dealing with critics, and copycats.
This task, as well as raising a family as been one of the biggest challenges in my life, but it is one I refuse to give up on. The love fashion has been in my soul for as long as I can remember...age 6 using markers to redesign everything in my grannies giant JC Penny catalog, age 7 hand sewing clothes for my Barbies, age 8 making aprons with my granny...I can keep going but I won't, anyway the point is stay tuned for my journey. I don't think God would've given me this passion if it wasn't going anywhere. Share your passions below I can't wait to read them, and to all the parents reading this... we CAN do it all, its hard af, but don't give up, we got this!!!!!!!!!!!
I love mixing highs and lows, and mixing seasons. Since we are transitioning into fall I combined a few summer pieces with a few fall pieces to create a casual but weather friendly look. My blazer is a light weight tweed, underneath I added my favorite button down shirt dress. Its pretty hot outside so I left the dress open, tucking it in on one side only. Layering is a major factor for fall, but since this is just fall prep, my bottom layer is a sheer black bra strapped bodysuit. Cropped denim is great because it transitions through every season. I finished the look of with a drawstring pouch bag, and platform pumps. Leave feedback below
