You have to study and practice your craft if you want to be great at it, and I'm gonna add no matter what!!!!!!!!!!. When I was pregnant with my first daughter I started taking sewing classes at San Diego Continuing Education. If anyone reading this is interested in sewing I highly recommend. The classes are free and most of the instructors are/were industry professionals. I started sewing at 7 years old however, when I attended FIDM I majored in merchandise marketing. At that time I was working in retail managing a store in the mall and my plan was to eventually go into allocating or buying. Obviously I decided to take a different path, I honestly just got burnt out on retail and selling and I have a whole family of 6 now so yeah things changed.
SDCE offers certification programs like fashion construction, sewn product business, interior design, culinary, computer programming, etc...or you can just take classes to build your skills. I think its imperative to be a life long learner no matter what's on your plate. As parents its so easy to forget ourselves, but we have to continue to learn and grow to help our children learn and grow. Since attending school I have been drafting my own patterns, as well as using premade patterns and creating pieces. check out some of my early pieces below more will be coming soon. I have also included a link below to SDCE for anyone interested in checking out classes.
Thanks for reading.
